This memorial bears the names of 72,000 men killed in the Somme sector, of which 90% were killed in the 1916 battle.
Family Sydney was baptised at Shipley on 9th December 1888, the son of wheelwright Reuben Kensett and his wife Rose Laker from Old House, Brooks Green. As a widow Rose married Raymond Laker and moved to Trawlers Farm, Southwater.
Items returned to his mother, the executor of his will were :
Belt, rifle cover, coloured scarf, letters, scissors, ourse, Arabic book and a military book.
